Anthony Coebergh, a Rugby Icon

We take great pleasure in seeing our alumni thrive in different areas during their walks through life. One alumnus who well deserves our appreciation is Anthony Coebergh. We are all proud of his achievements and contributions to society.

Upon graduating from the YHKCC, Anthony decided to study Sports Management and Business in Amsterdam and this brave and prudent decision has proved incredibly fruitful for him. Anthony is in his second year of his course and very close to starting an internship working with a few sports teams in Europe.

Those who keep an eye on Hong Kong rugby or YHKCC’s alumni news will remember Anthony from when he represented Hong Kong by entering the under 20’s level at the junior world trophy and the Asia 7’s. He did himself very proud at both tournaments. Well upon moving to Amsterdam, Anthony was selected to play for the Dutch national under 20’s side and quickly became a pivotal member for his club side RC 't Gooi (a Dutch Rugby Union club based in the town of Naarden) where he has created a formidable half back partnership with his brother Mark Coebergh, another YHKCC alumni.

The Dutch under 20’s team just competed in the European rugby championships where it was defeated by Spain in the semi-final. However, Anthony was voted the most valuable player and impressed everyone in all the games played.

At the end of the tournament, we caught up with Anthony to do an interview sharing how he struck a balance between studies and being a professional rugby player. Please click “Download” to read the full interview.
